1. Next Local District 5 Instructional Technology Leader Meeting

There is no meeting scheduled for April. The next volunteer technology leadership/coordinator meeting of 2008-2009 for Local District 5 will be held 3:30-5:15pm on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the ITD ITTB Training Room 2, Local District 5, 2151 N. Soto Street, Los Angeles, CA 90032. We will use this time to share resources with each other and discuss issues facing instructional technology applications during our current educational climate.

3. Ed Tech Workshops Salary Point Class - May 2 and May 16, 2009

Ed Tech Workshops is offering a salary point class titled “Engage. Enrich. Energize. Technology Strategies for Engaging Students with Project-Based Learning”. This will be held at Monte Vista Elementary School, 5423 Monte Vista Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042 on Saturday, May 2, 2009 and Saturday, May 16, 2009, 8:00am – 1:00pm. 4. Common Sense Schools Parent Media Education Program

Schools can now utilize free materials to help parents raise smart, responsible kids in our media world. The Common Sense Schools Parent Media Education Program includes a sample parent letter, parent media survey, student media survey, family media agreement, tip sheets on various topics (i.e Internet safety, alcohol), videos, and workshop presentation slides and scripts. 5. Infotech Conference and Parent Summit 2009 - April 25, 2009

3. CTAP Region 11 Technology Academies - $400 Compensation for Participating

New opportunities for teachers to increase technology proficiency are still available! Teachers can learn to effectively integrate technology into standards-based instruction by participating in a weeklong CTAP Region 11 Technology Academy. Several of the academies will be held at the ITD ITTB Training Room 2 located at the Local District 5 Office Building throughout the Summer, but you may choose to enroll in academies held at other locations. The CTAP Technology Academies are five-day trainings, designed for educators that need educational technology professional development at their level of proficiency. The objective is to ensure that classroom educators have the requisite skills, knowledge, and ability to effectively integrate technology into the curriculum.

Intended Audience: K-12 Teachers (Levels: Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced)

Los Angeles Unified School District will be providing compensation in the amount of $400 for those who attend a District-sponsored academy. You must be off-track (e.g. Single Track teachers must attend academies during the Summer break) to receive the compensation. Additionally, you can receive LAUSD salary point credit for completion of the Level II Academy.

3. K-12 Voucher School Computer Program

The State's Educational Technology K-12 Voucher Program (aka Microsoft Vouchers) provides for reimbursements for expenditures to support technology in school districts. The LAUSD Education Technology K-12 Voucher Program uses the District's allocation for reimbursements under the State program to replace or augment their computer technology. Please refer to Memorandum MEM-4594 titled Procedures for Purchasing Computer Technology Using the Educational Technology K-12 Vouchers for information on how your school will proceed with this program.

The first annual Google Sketchup Gingerbread House Design Competition is now open for anyone to participate. 5. Lead Coach Opening – EETT/Integrating Math and Science through Technology

The Instructional Technology Branch has an opening for an EETT/IMaST Lead Coach. The person selected for this position will report directly to the Instructional Technology Branch, EETT Project Director. A Lead Coach will work to enhance student learning in mathematics and science classrooms through the integration of instructional technology by addressing the performance goals of the EETT/IMaST grant. The deadline for submitting application materials is December 23, 2008 with interviews to take place during the period of January 12, 2009 through January 16, 2009. Attendance is voluntary but does also provide an occasion when technology leaders can share ideas as well as learn about the latest in instructional technology.

1. Local District 5 Instructional Technology Leader Meeting for October

The first of six volunteer technology leadership/coordinator meetings for Local District 5 will be held 3:30-5:15pm on October 16, 2008. The location of this meeting will be the ITD ITTB East Los Angeles Computer Lab on th 1st Floor of the Local District 5 Office Building, 2151 N. Soto Street, Los Angeles, CA 90032.

Along with providing the latest updates on technology integration for our school district, Doug Taylor, Instructional Technology Applications Facilitator from LAUSD Educational Technology Group supporting Local District 5, will present and guide us through various online collaboration tools being used system-wide in our school district. This includes looking at tools such as Google, Moodle, and Elluminate Live! This is a great opportunity to meet our liaison from the instructional branch of ITD.

Attendance is voluntary but does provide an occasion when technology leaders can share ideas as well as learn about the latest in instructional technology.


2. EdTech Profile Survey – Certificated Employees Must Complete this by 10/31/08

All LAUSD certificated staff are reminded that the 2008-2009 window for mandatory annual completion of the EdTech Profile (formerly CTAP2 ) survey closes on October 31, 2008 at 5:00 PM. This survey is completed individually, online (http://www.edtechprofile.org/) and takes approximately 30 minutes. The survey can be completed in a single session or over multiple sessions. Aggregate information from this survey is used to tailor professional development offerings and to study the impact of various grants and initiatives.

3. CUE Los Angeles Technology Fair – November 15, 2008

On Saturday, November 15, 2008, Computer Technology Assistance Project Region 11 (CTAP
Region 11) and Computer-Using Educators of Los Angeles (CUELA) will jointly hold the 2008 Technology Fair, a one-day instructional technology event that is presented for educators throughout the Greater Los Angeles area.

The location for the 2008 CTAP Region 11/CUELA Technology Fair will be:

Virgil Middle School, Los Angeles Unified School District
152 N. Vermont Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90004

The general focus of the fair is to provide a day of learning for fellow educators so they may enhance their students’ opportunities to compete and contribute in the 21st century. Both CTAP Region 11 and CUELA recognize the existence of exciting, innovative, and educational activities occurring in our Los Angeles County area schools.

4. Google Teacher Academy at New York – Apply by October 10, 2008

The Google Teacher Academy is a FREE professional development experience designed to help K-12 educators get the most from innovative technologies. Each Academy is an intensive, one-day event where participants get hands-on experience with Google's free products and other
technologies, learn about innovative instructional strategies, receive resources to share with colleagues, and immerse themselves in an innovative corporate environment. Upon completion, Academy participants become Google Certified Teachers who share what they learn with other K-12 educators in their local region. The deadline to apply is October 10, 2008.
